  Use a regular ceramic tile for the floor and choose a large tile. Be sure to seal the grout and use something with a wavy surface. For your countertops, you can use a formica, marble pattern, speckle or granite. But, you must maintain granite with cleaning and sealing on a regular basis. You are right, travertine and limestone are porous, also need to be sealed. Both are beautiful. I have used all. I did not have a problem with either since I kept up regular maintenance. I did have a problem with marble and travertine in shower stalls dulling and showing hard water. Big job to correct it. I would not do it again. I will only use ceramic tiles. Even marble will absorb soap and discolor on a countertop. But, I love it and used it in low maintenance bathroom countertop. Then again I had a black marble fleck top in my kitchen and island and it held up fine.

  The travertine was the worst, the limestone was in a bathroom with very little use on the floor. It is a tough choice.

  Do a little more research. I am sure other’s will share their experiences.

  ceramic tile for floor. I used white (slightly bumpy tile surface to avoid slipping); I wish I used a neutral tan or gray to show less dirt; I wish I would have used a dark grout instead of the light gray – - again easier to keep cleaner appearance. Tiles come in a stone look and are VERY attractive. I installed the tiles myself & learned some cool tips. If you plan on laying ceramic tiles yourself, give me a shout.

  countertops: absolutely no to marble or granite, maintenance is NOT fun. I enjoy the basic whilte all in one sink & counters which has no ridges around the sink to keep clean or have to reseal later in years.

  Hey Dear………..

  Whenever we think to design a bathroom, we imagine a limited space in mind. Therefore, light and pale shades are always preferred as these tones give an illusion of large space. These shades can be blended easily with other accessories of bathroom such as bathtub, washbasin etc. If you want to add any potent or strong element of color on one wall, be sure it would open up the space.

  The perfect choice is to mix the paint and tiles for walls. In large size bathrooms, tiles can be fixed from floor to ceiling without any hesitation. Cream color tiles for entire bathroom and green color for flooring and ceiling throws a light reflecting effect.
