Can i lay stone tiles over laminate flooring ?

Can i lay stone tiles over laminate flooring. Ive read a few posts where people have said that the laminate is a floating floor, if i filled the floor full of screws / bought a nail gun, would this get round the movement problem ? Not too keen on taking the laminate up but i don’t want to ruin the end result of a very expensive tiling job. Thanks

      I would suggest removing the laminate prior to installing the stone to prevent problems.

      yes, most laminate floor is the floating type. however if you anchor it to whatever is underneath. you will probably be o.k. the safe way would be to take up the laminate. good luck.

      I definitely would not do this. Laminate will buckle and warp if it gets wet, and you will be wetting it with the glue and grout.. If it makes it through the tile installation some day a leak may occur, then it will buckle and crack all your stone tiles, ruining the job. Laminate should be very easy to take up if it is the newer laminate floating floor type. If you are talking about the old fashioned glue down stuff I’d ask a tile store (a real tile store, not a big box store) they can tell you if it’s safe.

      Do not do it. You need a clean solid subfloor if you’re going to spend the kind of money it takes to do ceramic or mexican tile. It’s not that fun to peel off laminate but it’ll be less fun when you see all your good work go down the uh..sh****ter

      You realize how easy it is to take out laminate floor..It just folds down in a groove..It’s floating cause the back of the plank is foam, and so is the underlayment..Then you have to deal with different height floors. Transitions…Pull it out…best of Luck.

      probably not but when using concrete on wood use 15 lb felt beetween concrete and wood or get dry rot
