Can I use travertine tile sold for flooring to clad a decorative pillar meant for outside use?

Can stone floor tile sold at Home Depot, like slate or travertine, be used as siding on a house? I think a 16" x 16" x 3/8" travertine floor tile, if installed as siding on an exterior wall, can make it imitate cast stone. I live in Missouri. Man made cast stone is expensive compared to natural travertine floor tile, so why not?

      If you get any kind of freezing weather for long periods at a time, such as 3/4 days in a row, no you shouldn t.
      These natural stones can absorb water and moisture and will crack when damp and then frozen, Man made materials such as cultured stones are full of resins, they don t absorb water .

      Travertine is a variety of porous stone that will absorb moisture. Since you live in Missouri with weather that could possibly freeze dampened stones- your stone will crack and/or break
