Do granite countertops get installed like puzzle pieces?

Im in the proce4ss of gather ideas for remodeling my kitchen. I really want Granite countertops and have been looking for granite ideas online. I want to purchase the granite online hopefully to recieve a good deal but i need to understand the instalation! Do the contractors cut the granite to the same shape of my counter? Or do they put the pieces together like a puzzle?

    You can do it both of those ways. The first is higher quality(usually) than the pieces but buyer beware. I design and build kitchen cabinets and if I had a nickel for every bad countertop job I’ve seen I’d have a lot of nickels. I don’t know where you live but chances are that you could find a local shop and craftsman to build your tops.

    if it is a small counter say 8′ long and straight 1 piece…most L shapes will be 2 piece….you really need to have a pro install it… and measure 10 times then order 1 time!!!

    The better installers won’t install your own granite. They want to provide the granite so they can make a good profit on the job. So buying your own may sound good, but in the long run may not work out. They take big slabs and custom cut and finish them to fit your counters. Depending on the shape and size of your counter top area you may need more than one slab.

    For the best result, get a good installer in your area, go with him to a local granite yard, pick your slabs and get it done right.

    Mine was done in 3 sections due to the u shape. When they installed it they used a compound to connect the pieces. It took 3 guys 6 hours to install it properly what with shimming and gluing.
    Home depot had a great sale and they sent the installers.

    I have an L shaped granite counter that was cut/shaped in one piece, so it really depends on how large the slab of granite is, and the shape/size of continuous counter. I would never purchase granite online myself. Go to local kitchen design stores to look into ordering through them, or local granite shops if you happen to live close enough to one. Let the professionals install it and tell you all you might need to know about granite. Shop around a lot before purchasing. Discuss whether you can have a seamless kitchen counter done or not. Mine is seamless, but this cannot always be done.

    If you want a job done right… stop looking online, go to a reputable, quality, granite fabrication shop. As granite fabricators we have the tools, knowledge and skill to make it right, our seams are tight, level and matched, our tops are level, free from damage and chips, our sink holes are cut and polished…

    If you think you can get a good job cheap, remember: GOOD ISNT CHEAP AND CHEAP ISNT GOOD!

    If you go down the cheap, DIY road, someday a reputable fabricator will be in your home, to repair, remove or fix your countertops and he will take pictures for his Wall Of Shame.

    Also seams are not because the fabricator likes them or saves money, each seam adds hours of labor for the fabricator, seams are either because of the deisgn of your kitchen versus the size of the slab OR to maintain the integrity of the stone.

    First get the granite from a slab yard. Make sure to hire a slabyard that sends out associates to make the templates for you so they cut it for you. Next is installing the cut granite the slab yard where you purchased your granite might also have installers and If not just hire an installer.

    Project done.

    Then have it resealed every few years.

    I wouldn’t order online I’d have to see the stone with my own eyes. I know a great orange county granite Dealer.

    Good luvk with your remodeling process. You should post pictures when it’s complete.
