Cultured Marble Bathroom Countertop and Engineered Stone

I’m remodeling a bathroom. The contracter specified cultured marble. I see that Consumer Reports gives engineered stone the highest rating for bathroom countertops. So is what I’m getting an engineered stone, or not?

    David B is 99.9% rt. Cultured marble is a marble dust poured together w/ resins and epoxies to form a solid surface( so you have a ‘stone" in it lol), very durable but not an engineered stone as your thinking. GL

    No it isn’t. The material that is used for " cultured marble " counter tops isn’t stone at all. It is mostly a type of plastic. Engineered stone is actually crushed stone of various types in a resin which I believe is formed under extreme pressure. The cultured marble is poured as a liquid and sets up in a form.

    Engineered stone is more expensive, which might explain why the contractor isn’t using it.
