Is it safe to use vinegar to clean tile floors?

So I have heard conflicting stories. In natural cleaning books/online resources I have seen recipes to clean tile floors that contain vinegar. But other resources online (and my husband) say you should never use vinegar on tile floors because it will eat away the grout.

So what’s the deal? Is it OK to use or not?

    You should definitely be fine using it on tile floors. Vinegar is a great cleaning product, and it’s chemical free! We posted an article at Scott Common Sense about the MANY uses of vinegar.

    Top Ten List for uses of full-strength vinegar:
    1. Clean and disinfect wood cutting boards
    2. Deodorize the kitchen drain (let sit for 30 minutes before flushing with water)
    3. Remove perspiration and deodorant stains from clothing before laundering
    4. Avoid ant invasions (wipe down your counters, cabinets and floors)
    5. Rinse and soften clothes in the wash (add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle)
    6. Make your glasses and dishes spot-free (add a cup of vinegar to the bottom of your dishwasher)
    7. Wipe an old DVD or CD clean (pour vinegar on a lint-free cloth)
    8. Soften an old paintbrush (soak it in hot vinegar, then wash with warm, sudsy water)
    9. Kill grass in sidewalks or driveways
    10. Clean shower doors and toilet bowls

    The only thing that eats away grout is BLEACH.. Dilute the vinegar and you will be fine

    Yes. I even use it on my hair. Never been in better shape.

    Vinegar is highly acidic, but with no urea in it.

    To disinfect (ie: if you have a cat) a 1:1 ratio is suggested.

    To clean especially for floors a 1/2 cup vinegar to 1 gallon of water is perfectly safe.

    If the grout is established (well set) then it would take decades to affect it. This is compared to Tilex and other abrasive cleaners.

    I use vinegar all the time and never had a problem. I use 1 gallon of warm water, 1 cup of white vinegar, and a tiny bit of liquid detergent. It works great for my floors!

    Jenn if you do not have a good sealer on your grout, acidic cleaners will damage and erode your grout. I would never use it on my tile. Try using Glass Plus it is recommended for Ceramic, Granite, and Marble.
