Is limestone a good choice for a bathroom floor?

I’m doing a bathroom remodel for a brother and his home is not on a slab but has floor joist and plywood. He is working with a home interior designer and she has sold him on the idea of using a limestone for the walls and floors. I’m a carpenter/electrician and have done some tile work but I don’t feel good about installing lime stone on a wood floor. Any insight will help:)

      Limestone is probably not the best choice for the bathroom, as it is one of the softest stones, and very succeptable to elements, including water, the biggest being acid, even hydrogen peroxide will erode limestone as even sealents will wear down. You are probably better off with a harder substance, marble would not be good either, although it looks nice as it is just as soft as limestone, but slate would be a better choice. Granite being the best.

      Doesn’t sound like a good idea. It’s too porous. Water will soak into it.

      loll no. the limestone will just get easily eroded within about 4-5 years.

      not worth it :D

      Limestone is great for your bathroom, i had my put in a month ago n im loving it and now wen i have party every1 compliments it also.

      home interior designer huh
      limestone is for exterior
      I have never seen it on a floor
      and we have alot here in Texas

      No it’s a pourous material that holds water and also is too soft for flooring in a bathroom.

      Have you considered a porcelain tile that looks like limestone? Durable and doesn’t crack like ceramic.

      If the designer has suggested limestone, I would be concerned, Limestone is soft, and does not wear very well.

      Perhaps she meant the color of limestone in a ceramic finish. I have to deal with designers on a regular basis, they have a flair for color, but some lack material knowledge, and then you get the so called designers on television that will convince home owners that lime green and purple in the kitchen will look great. Yeah right.
      I would clarify her intentions, prior to wasting your brothers time money and energy.

      I agree with Elliott. Limestone is soft, porous and subject to attack by just about any chemical. There are some really nice ceramic tiles available that look like stone.

      You also need to be sure the underlayment is solid because even with ceramic tile, you run the risk of flexing and cracks.

      That makes a beautiful bathroom floor especially if it has a vintage theme to it..claw-foot tub..metal stand..granite sink top.sorry…but u did ask for any insight and i was visualising…i love the idea.
