Should I get a stone exterior or hardwood floor in my new home?

Here is the deal. I’m building a new home and I have an option of getting a combined vinyl and stone exterior or hardwood floors for 00 each. The problem is to cut cost, I can only pick one. The stone would be on the front of the house and would bring value to the look of the house. The hardwood floor would cover the 1st floor of the 2 story home (foyer, powder, dining room, kitchen/eating, and living room). Which would be the best deal to get built in with the house? There is a possibility of doing upgrades after purchase, but I only plan on living there for about 5 years.

Edit: If I don’t get stone, then the front of the house will just be all vinyl. If I don’t get hardwood floors the foyer, dining room, kitchen/eating, and powder will be linoleum and the living room will be carpet.

      Concentrate on the interior. The exterior can wait. Wood floors add value to the home. If you do choose the wood floor never wet. Only use Bona X

      Why don’t you talk to the builder and go vinyl in the kit and eating area’s……and have them chalk a line at about 32” or 48” on the front of your house and go up with siding and down with stone………….they can do that and they know it….it’s not that hard to lay this new stone….in fact you can do it if someone runs the paper and wire and shows you how to start.

      I believe the answer to your question depends on what the outside finish will be without stone (all Vinyl) and what the 1st floor covering will be if not hardwood.

      Without knowing those bits of information I would go with the stone simply because there are so many good prefinished hardwood products that are relatively easy to install later on.

      for your situation of moving out after 5 years, i would opt for the exterior work. people are more comfortable with doing flooring work than changing out the look of the front of the house. if you were to live there beyond 5 years for life, then i would opt for the flooring.

      Personally, I love the look of a stone exterior , so I would definitely recommend that option. However, before you get started, I would recommend using McGraw Hill’s Sweets Directory of construction products to see all of your options. They have a lot of important information that can help you make an informed decision. I have been using them for years and they have made so many of my home improvement projects easier. They are definitely worth checking out.
