stone looking kitchen counters?

I lke the look of travertine or another ‘stoney’ look, i DO NOT like the look of granite. Granite tends to look to ‘man made’ to me. I hear travertine is too pourous and easily cracked for the kitchen…what else will look very stone like without being pourous. IS it possible to use some type of actual flooring stone stuff and put a thick glaze over it?

    What you might like is a product called Silestone ~ the stuff is expensive (around $65 a sq ft installed) but utterly gorgeous with very easy maintenance. Silestone has a riverwashed, natural look to it.

    Lowe’s and Home Depot do carry some color lines of Silestone ~ the best selection to find it though, is at a masonry center.

    My neighbor actually used floor tiles on his countertop and it was gorgeous. He used the same tile, in a different size for the countertop, laid the floor on a diagonal and the countertop square, then sealed the countertop and had zero problems with it. It made the kitchen look A LOT bigger too.

    Go to Lowes, Home Depot, or some DIY and check out the countertop options. There are countertops made out of stone and also some manmade lookalikes that you might like. You could use real tile, but the grout is usually the problem here. I would check out the countertops first.
