What can I buy to clean my tile floors!?

Cleaning takes forever with the old mop & bucket, not to mention it hurts to bend down for so long. I need something faster & cleaner. I used to work in the hospital & would see the machines they used to clean the floors, does anyone know the names of the machine? Does a buffer work for tile floors? Or any machine that cleans tile floors? My kitchen, living room, dining room, hallways, and computer room are all tile! It takes hours to clean & I don’t even get the floors super clean, someone help?

      Ughhh I know exactly how you feel .. I use a swiffer wet jet , but instead of those pads they have I use an old cloth , and I make my own solution I use pine sol and borax .. My tile floors shine , and are SO clean , and with the wet jet and an old cloth there isn’t any trash when Im done with one cloth i throw it in the washer and get another .. I bought a package of 12 wash clothes at the dollar store for around $3.00 . and to make them absorb the water and cleaning solution I first wash them adding in 2 cups of vinegar to make them absorbent ..

      If you dont like how I do I also clean my floors another way .. I have one of those steam mops from Shark , and it gets the floors very clean as well .

      General Purpose Floor Cleaners

      If you want to make a basic floor cleaner that can be used in your bare floor cleaning machine, mix 1/3 cup of Borax with one gallon of warm water. Add one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and a tablespoon of ammonia. This solution makes a fine floor cleaning product that will not only remove tough stains, but will disinfect your kitchen and bathroom floors.

      To clean your wood floors, go to the pantry and mix ½ cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil. This natural solution will make your wood floors shine like new. The vinegar acts to remove stains and the oil helps to maintain the luster of the wood.

      If you have Pergo floors, you can mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar, 1/3 cup rubbing alcohol, 1/3 cup water and three drop of dishwashing liquid to make a fantastic floor cleaner. This solution can also be used in your bare floor cleaner, or with a mop.

      To clean a linoleum floor, mix one tablespoon of liquid soap, a quarter cup of baking soda to two gallons of hot water. Add ¼ cup of white vinegar to the mix and you have an excellent linoleum floor cleaner. This solution also works very well on tile floors.

      Scented Floor Cleaners

      To make a nicely scented, homemade floor cleaner, mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar to two gallons of hot water and add drops of orange essential oil or lemon essential oil to the mix. Essential oils can be found in craft shops where candle supplies are found. Even if you do not have the oils, the vinegar and water makes a great cleaner and costs a fraction of what a store bought floor cleaner costs.

      Disinfectant Floor Cleaners

      To disinfect a floor, use 1/2 cup of borax to two gallons of hot water. Borax can be found in your supermarket next to the laundry detergents and is a powder. A large box of Borax can go a long way in developing many different cleaning products. The Borax solution does not have to be rinsed after applied. It will disinfect any floor, even the bathroom.

      Chrome Cleaner

      Toothpaste, for example, makes a great chrome cleaner, as does crumpled up aluminum foil. White vinegar is, by itself, one of the best glass cleaners available.

      Dusting

      You can also use re-used dryer sheets in place of magnetic cloths, such as "Swiffer" cloths. Dryer sheets are also great for dusting, particularly television screens.

      A Warning About Bleach and Ammonia

      If you are mixing your own floor cleaners, never mix ammonia and bleach, as the fumes are toxic.

      Once you have made a homemade floor cleaner, you will probably want to try to make other cleaning products. You may even enjoy using some every day products in ways to clean your home.

      I’ve got 2 great suggestions — unfortunately, both machines are a little costly. A machine I bought a few years ago – the Hoover Floormate (around $200) – does a terrific job of scrubbing grime off tile and even has a squeegee function that dries the floor as you go. The first time I used it, I couldn’t believe how much dirt it picked up (when we moved into our house, I thought the tile was beige but this machine actually brought them back to their original white). The second suggestion, and a real treat if you aren’t turned off by the price, is a "Scooba" — a robotic floor washer, made by the Roomba people (www.irobot,com – they have a terrific video where you can watch it in action). My husband bought me one a couple of years ago and I was hesitant to keep it, but you have no idea how terrific it is! What an absolute treat to push a button, walk away and come back 30-45 minutes later to a clean floor. Decadent! Believe me, you couldn’t wrestle the thing away from me now. Either way, both machines do a way better job than a mop with little to no wear and tear on your back.
