What do I need to do to lay ceramic tile floors in a mobile home?

Would a cement backer board added to the floor help stabilize and prevent tile cracking?

    Ceramic tile is not recommended in a mobile setting at all. The fluctuation is to great. Backer board or no no backer board. Even following some ill advise given by some people here is even more dangerous because not one gave you correct procedures to lay cement board down in normal settings.
    You ll get people saying my buddy did it ,but all that I go by are the written tile code guidelines ..

    You definitely need a cement backer board , in a mobile home with its more bouncy floors id use "wonder board" its more flexible. You should remove any vinyl flooring until you get to the Original sub floor. Glue your backer board down and screw it every 12 inches or so. I use a good grade mortar to set the tiles, wipe off the excess mortar within 30 minutes to clean your grout lines and wait at least 12 hrs before grouting. It helps if you use the same color mortar as your grout is going to be. And try to choose a grout that matches your tile. also 24 hrs after it is all done spray it all down with a high grade silicone sealer.

    Yes it would you need a backer board you shouldnt lay tile on wood or without support. Get backer board, almost looks like sheet rock, but a gray color with little squares on it, you can find it at home depot or lowes or any local hardware store near you. You also need sheet rock sqrews so you can drill it down, they are usually green, and you will need you tiles of course, a tile saw, grout, and your grouting tools, such as your smother and sponges. OH and lets not forget the thin set to get the tiles to stick. Good luck

    Tile in a mobil home is almost always going to fail. You need to put in 3/4" plywood sub floor and then backer-board and you may still fail. Remember you are adding about 12 to 15 pounds per sq ft weight. It’s like parking a small car in your living room. You must be able to take all the bounce out of the floor. Bounce equals broken tile. No reputable tile company will install tile in a mobile home. There are other great flooring options that will work in your home. Fiberglass vinyl, Laminates, solid vinyl tiles. hardwood. Lots of better floors.
