What is the problem with a crack in granite countertops?

I recently had granite countertops installed in our house. There is a long crack in part of it. It’s not terribly obvious, but it definately goes through the granite (you can see & feel the crack on the bottom too).

1. Is this a problem?

2. What kind of damage can occur if it is not fixed?

3. How is this fixed?

      IF IT WAS A END CUT PUTTING JOINTS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALBLE TO DO IT SO IT IS NOT NORICABLE. IF IT IS CRACKED AND THEY INSTALL, LET THEM REPLACE IT.

      I would definitely contact the fabricator. Water can seep down through the crack causing the wood that supports it underneath to rot. Cracks and seams can be filled and they use a color matched resin to seal them.

      Granite is a natural material.It usually contains voids and flaws.Cracks are common.Granite companies usually fill those flaws with color matched epoxies that reinforce the flaw and camoflage it best as possible.I’m surprised it wasn’t addressed during fabrication.It could lead to a bacteria problem but,I don’t see leaking or cabinet deterioration being a big concern.A call to your top company is certainly in order.
